The situation with the shortage of chips in general and video cards in particular, according to many analysts and the companies themselves, will not change very much next year. But there may well be some individual shifts for the better. According to the latest data, Nvidia is already trying to get hold of as many semiconductor wafers as possible.
The company has already paid TSMC $ 1.64 billion in prepayment in the third quarter and will pay another 1.79 billion in the next. The bottom line is that TSMC has a requirement for Nvidia and a number of other clients regarding prepayment, so that these same clients eventually receive the required or maximum number of platters for them.
In Nvidia’s case, the company will spend $ 6.9 billion on wafers, apparently within a year. And this is much more than last year. This amount includes payments not only from TSMC, but also from Samsung.
In the case of TSMC, we are talking about a 5 nm process technology. It will be used as a GPU Ada Lovelave for GeForce gaming cards, and GPU Hopper for specialized accelerators.
