Initiating UPI transaction but not in network? Although nowadays everyone has at least some cash with them, most of the people are dependent on UPI payment for money transfer. But transacting using the internet often puts us in trouble due to 2G network reception, which halts the UPI process online. However, there is an offline process to initiate UPI payments that many of us are not aware of. All you need to do is dial the USSD code ‘*99#’ from your phone.
National Payment Corporation India (NPCI) has launched ‘*99# service’ to process UPI service across banks in India. Users can avail banking services by dialing *99# from their registered mobile number and transact money through the interactive menu displayed on the mobile screen.
NPCI offers different services under *99# service, which include sending and receiving money from interbank account to account, balance enquiry, setting/changing UPI PIN. Here are all the steps to initiate UPI transaction using ‘*99#’ USSD code from your smartphone.
How to transfer money offline with UPI
1 – First dial *99# from your registered mobile number which is linked to your bank account.
2 – A menu will pop up with existing services from your bank to start with.

2 – request money
3 – check balance
4 – my profile
5 – pending request
6 – transaction
7 – UPI PIN
3 – To send money, type 1, and tap Send.
4 – Now select from which account you want to send money. Mobile Number, UPI ID and other details. OPTIONS Type the number and tap SEND.
5 – If you have selected transfer via mobile number, enter the mobile number linked to the receiver’s UPI account and tap Send.
6 – Enter the amount you want to send and tap Send.
7 – Now enter comment to pay.
8 – Enter UPI PIN to complete your transaction.
9 – Now your UPI transaction will be completed offline.
You can also activate UPI service offline by dialing *99# from your registered phone number and following the instruction.
