Nokia received a license to supply equipment to Russia

The head of MegaFon, Khachatur Pombukhchan, confirmed that Nokia had received permission to supply telecommunications equipment to Russia.

He said that Nokia has sent two applications for licenses to European regulators and two more to US ones. According to Pombukhchan’s information, “one application was approved positively, and decisions are pending on three.”

Nokia is a commercial company. They considered it possible for themselves to agree and fulfill their obligations. In November, it became known that Nokia applied for licenses to the US Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) and the Finnish Ministry of Foreign Affairs. But the company noted that we are not talking about the supply of new equipment for expanding networks, but only about spare parts that will be used to maintain existing networks for three years. Nokia then plans to close all of its Russian legal entities within a year and withdraw from Russia entirely.

Khachatur Pombukhchan also added that MegaFonaa has enough stocks of telecommunications equipment for the next 5-7 years, while the quality of services should not decrease.

He also confirmed that the company sold its stake in Svyaznoy.
