It looks like Netflix has found a great way to stop people from sharing their account passwords over and over again. In a blog post, the company announced that it is testing a new feature in some countries to curb the tendency to share Netflix accounts with friends or family.

In a blog post, Netflix explains that features like different profiles and multiple streams in the top-end plan have confused people about how and when to share Netflix accounts. The company says that it is not the company’s desire to use the accounts from one household to another, they have said this because the tendency to share passwords is affecting their revenue and ability to invest in the content.

“Although these have been extremely popular, there is some confusion about when and how Netflix can be shared,” says Chenghai Long, director of product innovation. As a result, accounts are shared with different people. This is happening. This is affecting our ability to invest in great new TV and movies for members.”

NETFLIX WILL BRING A NEW FEATURE TO STOP PASSWORD SHARING

Netflix will begin testing two new features in the coming weeks. One of them is “Extra Member”, which will allow account holders to add up to two additional (non-family) members to their account. But, it will not be free and Netflix will charge per member. Fees start at 2,380 CLP (approximately Rs 225.79) in Chile, $2.99 in Costa Rica, and 7.9 nuevo sol in Peru. In addition, the service will also provide each member with their own admin and password.

WILL THIS SERVICE COME FOR INDIANS ALSO?

No, this facility is not currently available for Indians. But, there is a possibility that Netflix may also bring it to India after successfully launching it in some countries. In a new blog post, the company has confirmed that the feature will first be made available to people who live in Chile, Costa Rica and Peru.
