NASA rolls out ‘Moon Rocket’, this is the world’s most powerful rocket

The ‘Space Launch System’ (SLS) rocket is carried to the launchpad at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida for a dummy countdown.

The US space agency NASA has launched its giant ‘Moon Rocket’ for the first time. The ‘Space Launch System’ (SLS) rocket is carried to the launchpad at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida for a dummy countdown. About 10 thousand people had gathered to see this event. If all goes well, then many more tests will be done and the last one will be ‘Wet Dress Rehearsal’. The height of SLS Block 1 rises to 322 feet (98 m) after the Orion crew capsule is fixed to the top of the rocket. It is taller than the Statue of Liberty, but slightly smaller than the Saturn V rocket at 363 feet. The Apollo mission to the Moon was operated with the help of the Saturn V rocket.

However, the SLS rocket will produce 8.8 million pounds of maximum thrust (39.1 meganewton), which is 15 percent more than the Saturn V rocket. This means that when it starts working, it will be the most powerful rocket in the world. Addressing the people who came to see the event, NASA Administrator Bill Nelson said that the world’s most powerful rocket ever is in front of you.

According to a news agency report, the bigger and more powerful this rocket is, the more expensive it is. NASA’s Inspector General Paul Martin told the country’s Congress this month that the rocket’s cost per launch for the first four Artemis missions would be $4.1 billion (about Rs 31176.605 crore).

After reaching the launchpad, engineers have two weeks to check this rocket. This will be followed by a ‘Wet Dress Rehearsal’. The SLS team will load more than 700,000 gallons (3.2 million liters) of cryogenic propellant into the rocket and test each stage of launch. Since this is just testing, the team will stop 10 seconds before the rocket explodes.

This system has been in the making for the last decade, due to delays in which its cost has increased. However, NASA hopes that once it is successfully launched, it will cover the delay in its development. This rollout will decide when NASA will launch its Artemis 1 mission. The purpose of the Artemis mission is to once again land humans on the Moon.

Work on SLS started in the year 2010, but due to technical issues, the project faced difficulties. NASA’s ‘Artemis I’ mission was to take off in November last year. Just a month before the launch, NASA said it had pushed the timeline and the mission would be launched by mid-February. The special thing is that the mission could not be launched even in February and this date has been extended again.
