Motorola wants to get Snapdragon 8 Gen1 temporary exclusivity

Qualcomm’s next-generation Snapdragon flagship SoC is set to debut later this month. Earlier, there were rumors that the first company to release a flagship on the new platform would be Lenovo. Now the well-known insider Digital Chat Station has confirmed that Motorola wants to get the right to temporary exclusivity to use the new platform.

Until today, it was believed that this platform will be released under the name Qualcomm Snapdragon 898, but now there is information that Qualcomm will change the naming scheme of its platforms. Instead of Snapdragon 898, the company will choose the name Snapdragon 8 Gen1.

It is currently known that the new flagship Motorola has already passed the necessary certification. It will be called Motorola Edge X or Motorola Edge 30 Ultra in different regions of the world. Xiaomi should introduce a compact flagship Xiaomi 12 mini is already on December 21but this smartphone will use Snapdragon 870. Full-fledged flagships of the Xiaomi 12 lineup on Snapdragon 8 Gen1 will be released later.

The Snapdragon 8 Gen1 will feature a core ARM Cortex-X2 core clocked at 3.0GHz, three Cortex-A710 cores clocked at 2.5GHz and four energy efficient Cortex-A510 cores clocked at 1.79GHz.
