More than a third of Russians admitted to being afraid of joking about politics, religion and nationality on the Internet

34% of Russians surveyed admitted that they are engaged in self-censorship – they try not to joke on the Internet on topics of politics, religion and nationality. The last two topics, however, are considered by most to be less dangerous.

65% of people who confessed their fear would not dare to joke on political topics. 5% try not to joke about a religious topic and 3% about national or racial affiliation.

Roskomsvoboda notes that last year ESET conducted a similar survey. Then 75% of the respondents said that they prefer not to write jokes on political topics. Younger people were more likely to indulge in this kind of humor.
