New Delhi: In India, there is now a consensus that there should be a single charger for many types of gadgets. Mobile companies and other companies in this sector have agreed to this. According to the information received, the ministry has given information in this matter. This decision was taken during the discussion held in the task force meeting chaired by Secretary Rohit Kumar Singh. Now a team has been formed to decide the final charger. At this point the decision on Type C or other charger is still undecided.
The meeting was attended by several educational institutions including MAIT, FICCI, CII, IIT Kanpur, IIT (BHU) along with representatives from Ministry of Environment and Central Government Ministries. After the meeting, all the representatives agreed on this. It has been unanimously decided that a common charging port should be issued from mobile to laptop. Many participants in the meeting agreed on USB Type-C for smartphones, laptops, and other gadgets. It is advised that there should be a separate charger for feature phones. After this decision, we can see less in the e-waste happening in the country.
The decision to have a single type of charger was initiated by PM Narendra Modi at COP 26. A rain has been poured towards the LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment) mission. Last year in November at the COP26 event, PM Modi speaking on climate change said that India will achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2070. The LiFE mission was started on the lines of Pro-Planet People-P3.
