Modi government took drastic action, banned 78 YouTube news channels and social media

New Delhi: YouTube news channels blocked in India: The Modi government at the center has taken a big action on Tuesday. In this action, the government has blocked 78 YouTube news channels and their social media accounts. Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Singh Thakur has given this information. Thakur said at this time that the order has been issued that it has been decided to ban these 78 YouTube news channels as well as their social media accounts.

The action against 78 YouTube News and their social media accounts is for violation of Section 69A of the IT Act 2000. According to Singh, the government has blocked 560 YouTube URLs in the last 2 years. The blocked YouTube news channel had more than 68 crore viewers. The Information and Broadcasting Minister gave this information while replying to a written question in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday. In fact, Manikam Tagore B, Congress MP from Virudhunagar, Tamil Nadu, sought information on the number of YouTube news channels that have been shut down by the government.

This type of action has already been taken by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. Earlier this year, 16 YouTube news channels were shut down. In this, 10 Indian channels and 6 YouTube channels operated from Pakistan were blocked on charges of tarnishing India’s image in the national security and public order. This action was taken under the IT Act 2021.

The action was taken on April 5
The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting took action on April 5 this year by using emergency powers under the IT Act, 2021. In this action, 22 YouTube news channels, three Twitter accounts and one Facebook account along with one news website were shut down. The number of viewers on this channel was more than 250 crores. The channel was spreading false and misleading information on topics like the Indian Army and India’s foreign relations.
