New Delhi: More than 30,000 websites, social media posts and accounts have been blocked by the Modi government at the Center since 2009. This information was given by Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur in a written reply in Parliament. Recently Union Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar said in Parliament that the government has so far blocked 348 apps for allegedly collecting user data and transmitting it to servers outside the country in an unauthorized manner.
Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur said in Parliament that the government has blocked 30,417 websites, URLs, webpages and social media posts along with social media accounts from 2009 to October 2022. This action has been taken under Section 69A of the Information Technology Act, 2000.
104 YouTube channels banned
Union Minister Anurag Singh Thakur while giving information said that nearly 104 YouTube channels have been closed in the country this year. Its social media accounts have been blocked along with its YouTube channel. The blocked YouTube channel had more than 68 crore viewers. It has blocked many channels on charges of damaging India’s image in national security and public order. This action was taken under the IT Act 2021.
348 Ban on mobile apps
The Ministry of Electronics and IT has so far banned around 348 mobile apps. It has maximum Chinese apps. The app was allegedly collecting users’ data and personal information. It was being sent out of the country in an unauthorized manner. Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology Rajeev Chandrasekhar informed this in Parliament on Wednesday.
