New Delhi. At Toyota’s State of the Motor Industry (SOMI) event held in Johannesburg, the brand revealed a new affordable hatchback called the Vitz. It will be the entry-level product of the Japanese auto major’s product portfolio in South Africa and will go on sale officially in the second quarter of this calendar year.
The Vitz is the latest offering from Toyota’s partnership with Suzuki. It is a rebadged version of the budget car Celerio. It will become the fourth badge-engineered model to be available in South Africa after the Starlet (rebadged Baleno), Urban Cruiser (rebadged Vitara Brezza) and Rumian (rebadged Ertiga).
second generation Maruti Suzuki Celerio like the Celerio made its Indian market debut in late 2021 and South Africa became the first country to be rebadged. On the outside, nothing has changed except the swap of badges as the Suzuki badge has been swapped out to make way for the Toyota badge. It could be priced cheaper than the Toyota Agya that it replaces in SA.

Vitz Toyota Vitz can weigh around 800 kgs. Equipment list will include features like central locking, all four power windows, electrically adjustable ORVMs, automatic climate control, hill-hold assist in AMT, keyless entry, steering wheel with mounted controls, rear windscreen washer and wiper, rear defogger . Features like 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, height-adjustable driver seat, fog lamps at the front are also available in this car.
