Micron and MediaTek are the first to test LPDDR5X memory in operation

During the MediaTek Executive Summit, Micron Technology announced that MediaTek has confirmed the performance of Micron’s LPDDR5X memory. The specified memory works with the new flagship MediaTek Dimensity 9000 platform for 5G smartphones. This is the fastest mobile memory available today. It is designed for a 1a (1-alpha) release. MediaTek has already shipped the first batch of LPDDR5X samples. Designed for flagship smartphones, Micron’s LPDDR5X memory is said to open a new wave of data-intensive applications powered by artificial intelligence and 5G innovation.

LPDDR5X specification, extending the LPDDR5 standard, was adopted by JEDEC in July.

Micron has already tested LPDDR5 samples that support data rates up to 7.5Gbps and samples that support data rates up to 8.533Gbps. LPDDR5X’s peak speed of 8.533Gbps delivers up to 33% faster performance over previous generation LPDDR5 memory.

Micron is partnering with the world’s leading smartphone manufacturers and chipset vendors to implement LPDDR5X support.
