Mgnrega Wage Hike: 14 crore people benefited before the elections, MNREGA rates increased; Where did wages increase the most?

Lok Sabha Elections 2024: Average wages will increase from Rs 261 in the last financial year to Rs 289. The new wage rates for unskilled manual works under MNREGA, 2005 have been introduced before the Lok Sabha elections 2024.

Loksabha Polls: Before the Lok Sabha elections, the rate of wages under MGNREGA has been revised. Crores of laborers will benefit from this decision taken by the government. In the financial year 2025, the wages received under the Central Government scheme have been increased by an average of Rs 28. The average wage will increase from Rs 261 in the last financial year to Rs 289. The new wage rates for unskilled manual works under MNREGA, 2005 have been introduced before the Lok Sabha elections 2024. A notification in this regard has been issued by the Ministry of Rural Development . The new rate will be implemented from April 1, 2024.

Maximum increase was made in Goa

The highest increase of 10.56 percent has been seen in Goa on the current wage rate. Due to this, wages have increased from Rs 322 per day to Rs 356 per day for the financial year 2024-2025. At the same time, in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand, a minimum increase of 3.04 percent has been made from the existing Rs 230 to Rs 237 per day respectively. The highest wage rate under MNREGA has been allotted to Haryana at Rs 374 per day. Whereas the lowest wage rate of Rs 234 per day has been fixed for Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland.

Wages of Rs 349 per day in Karnataka

According to the notification, in three other states including Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, MNREGA wages have been increased by more than 10 percent for the financial year 2024-25. The new MNREGA wage rate in Karnataka will be Rs 349 per day. This is 10.44 percent more than the previous rate of Rs 316. Including Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, the new MNREGA wage rate will be Rs 300 per day, which is an increase of 10.29 from the previous rate of Rs 272 per day during the current financial year.

The average wage rate increased to Rs 285.47 per day.

Under MNREGA, both the states of Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh have the same wage rate. The existing wage rate in both the states has been increased from Rs 221 to Rs 243, this is also an increase of 10 percent. Apart from this, other states where MNREGA wage rate has increased by less than 5 percent include Haryana, Assam, Manipur, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Rajasthan, Kerala and Lakshadweep. The current all India average wage rate of Rs 267.32 per day has seen an average increase of about 7 percent. For the financial year 2024-25, this average has become Rs 285.47 per day.

It is being said that the Ministry of Rural Development had sought approval from the Election

Commission before releasing the new wage rate under MNREGA. Due to Lok Sabha elections, model code of conduct has been imposed across the country. After approval from the Commission, notification of increased wages was issued by the Ministry. Recently, in the report presented in Parliament, it was said that the wages given under MNREGA are not sufficient. Anup Satpathy Committee had recommended increasing the MNREGA wages to Rs 375. Let us tell you that under MNREGA, there is a guarantee of providing 100 days of employment to unskilled labour.
