MG Motor India is planning to launch two new electric vehicles including a 5-door SUV and a compact MPV for Indian Market

The new MG Yep Plus 5-door electric SUV is claimed to have a range of 401 km (CLTC) on a single charge. It offers a top speed of 150 kmph.

Baojun Yep Plus Electric SUV: MG Motor India is planning to launch two new electric vehicles including a 5-door SUV and a compact MPV. Both models will be based on the E260 EV platform and their price will be less than Rs 15 lakh. The new electric MPV will be based on the Wuling Cloud MPV, which is available for sale in Indonesia. On the other hand, the electric SUV is likely to be based on the Baojun Yep Plus, a 5-door electric crossover that is currently available in the Chinese market.

Styling and Look

The styling of Baojun Yep Plus SUV is inspired by the 3-door version. It will be designed as a strong electric SUV. Similarly, Suzuki is also preparing an electric model of Jimny lifestyle SUV. The boxy style and retro design highlights will be retained in the SUV. The front fascia features a closed grille, a distinctive black bumper and square LED headlamps. The SUV has been introduced in special dual-tone color options like blue and white. Other design details include black pillars, 5-spoke rims, square wheel arches with small profile tyres, short overhangs and a swing-out trunk doors.

Design and dimensions

The SUV has a simple rear profile with flat glass areas, LED tail-lights and a uniquely styled tailgate and dual-tone bumper. The Baojun Yep Plus measures 3996 mm in length, 1760 mm in width and 1,726 mm in height, making it 600 mm longer and 75 mm wider respectively than the 3-door model. It comes with a 2,560 mm long wheelbase, which is 450 mm longer than the 3-door Jeep.

Battery and range

The new MG Yep Plus 5-door electric SUV is claimed to have a range of 401 km (CLTC) on a single charge. It offers a top speed of 150 kmph. The 3-door Yepp model is capable of delivering a range of 303 km on the CLTC cycle. The SUV has a single 75kW (101bhp) electric motor, which is set at the rear axle.

Talking about this electric MPV, the new Cloud EV is equipped with 50.6kWh lithium-ion battery pack and front-axle mounted electric motor. Whose combined power and torque output are 134bhp and 240Nm respectively. It is claimed to have a range of up to 505 km in a single charge, while the entry-level variant is capable of providing a range of up to 460 km in a single charge.
