Global automobile company Mercedes-Benz has launched the EQS 580, the first luxury electric car made in India. The price of this car is around Rs 1.55 crore (ex-showroom). This is Mercedes’ third electric vehicle (EV) in the country. Recently, the company started selling the AMG version of the EQS 53.
The company has started taking bookings for the EQS 580 for Rs 25 lakh. Local assembling is a major reason why this car is priced lower than Mercedes’ S-Class luxury sedan. This car will compete with Porsche’s Taycan EV and some other luxury electric cars. Mercedes expects EVs to account for about a quarter of its total sales over the next five years. The company believes that the EQS 580 will be a major contributor to this goal. Mercedes-Benz Martin Schwenk, Managing Director and CEO of the unit in India, said, “India is the first country outside Germany to manufacture the EQS 580 4MATIC. This will help the company connect with customers in the country and grow the luxury EVs. “
The car is powered by a 107.8 kWh lithium-ion battery and a set of four motors. It has a motor on each axle. mercedes It is said that it gives a range of up to 857 km in a single charge based on ARAI certification. It is the longest range electric car in the country. However, its range may be less in real situations. It has a maximum power of 523 bhp. It takes about four seconds to accelerate from 0-100 kmph. Key features include a 56-inch MBUX hyperscreen. This includes three small screens for the passenger display, central infotainment and driver display.
Apart from this, the features of this car are ambient lighting, high-end Burmester sound system and attractive interiors. Mercedes plans to capture the top position in the luxury EV market in India. Mercedes may benefit from the absence of Tesla, one of the world’s largest electric car makers, in the country. Recently Schwenk said that the company will also start fast charging network across the country. He said that due to lower tax, customers are getting incentives to buy electric vehicles.
