According to the Cyrus and Priya Vandrewala Foundation, a free mental health counseling provider, a third of the people who contacted and sought counseling in the last 18 months, ie from August 2021 to January 2023, told that they are struggling with anxiety, depression and thoughts of suicide. To deal with this crisis, he sought psychological help. Whereas, in the last three months i.e. from November 2022 to January 2023, such conversations have reached almost 40 percent. Priya Hiranandani, head of the foundation, told that a third of the people who contacted us told that they are struggling with mental illness, anxiety, depression and thoughts of suicide.
Till the year 2022, insurance companies did not keep mental health under the policy coverage (Mental Illness Treatment Coverage). Due to this, the patient had to pay the expenses for the treatment. Taking a dig at this attitude of insurance companies, the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India has made it mandatory to cover mental health in the policy from January 2023. Therefore, while taking a health policy, pay attention to mental health coverage.
Treatment of mental health through Ayushman Yojana
Under the Ayushman Bharat PM Jan Arogya Yojana (Ayushman Bharat PMJAY), the central government provides insurance to people for treatment up to Rs 5 lakh. Patients struggling with mental health are provided medical facilities through Ayushman Yojana. In such a situation, making Ayushman card can be very beneficial.
