First Maruti Suzuki electric car to be launched by the end of 2024
The first Maruti Suzuki EV will be available by late 2024 or early 2025. It will be based on Toyota’s 27 PL architecture. The electric car is likely to have a coupe-like roofline. It is expected to come with single and dual electric motor setup. The electric SUV is expected to come with a driving range of around 550 km.
Apart from the EV, the company is reportedly working on an affordable EV based on the WagonR. It is also planning to introduce the Fronx compact SUV coupe and an electric version of the Swift. The company is also working on the Huster EV. The company could also bring an electric SUV based on the Grand Vitara and a C-segment MPV based on the Toyota Innova Hycross. Apart from this, Suzuki is planning to introduce an entry-level electric CV in Japan soon. Production also includes 8 new electric two-wheelers and several hybrid cars.
The passenger electric vehicle segment is witnessing good growth in the Indian market. It is no longer a niche segment with an expensive price tag. Many brands have launched affordable EV models. This includes the Tata Tiago EV, the Citroen eC3 and the MG Comet. This is the right time for Maruti Suzuki to enter this segment. The first Maruti Suzuki EV is expected to be launched late next year or in 2025. At the moment, there is no information about its price.
