Maruti tops in export of cars from the country, Dzire and Swift in high demand abroad

The automobile industry’s exports of passenger vehicles grew by almost two percent in the second quarter. Maruti Suzuki stood first in the export of passenger vehicles with over 1.31 lakh units. The total export of passenger vehicles from the country stood at 1,60,590 units during July-September. The company had exported 1,03,622 units in the same period last year.

Data from the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers shows that shipments of passenger cars declined by about 5 per cent, while exports of utility vehicles increased by 16 per cent. Passenger cars exports stood at around 97,300 units and utility vehicles 63,016 units in the second quarter. Hyundai Motor’s exports increased by 11 percent to 74,072 units. The company exported 66,994 units in the same period last year. Kia sold around 44,564 units export did. The company’s exports stood at 23,213 units in the second quarter of last year.

The top international markets for Maruti Suzuki include Latin America, ASEAN and the Middle East. Cars like the company’s Dzire, Swift, S-Presso and Baleno are in great demand abroad. The company’s production has more than doubled in September. The company produced 1,77,468 units in September. This figure was 81,278 units in the same month last year. The company said that the shortage of electronic components has had a minor impact on the production.

The company’s total production of passenger vehicles last month stood at 1,73,929 units. It stood at 77,782 units in September last year. The total production of passenger cars increased from 47,884 units in September last year to 1,31,258 units in the same period this year. The production of utility vehicles stood at 29,811 units. This was 21,873 units in the same period last year. Maruti Suzuki’s light commercial vehicle Super Carry produced 3,539 units in September. This figure was 3,496 units in the same month last year. In the mid-size segment, it is getting good response due to less choice of vehicles with hybrid engines.
