Maruti Suzuki will sell 6 lakh CNG cars in the current financial year, demand spurt due to rising fuel prices

In a report, MSI Executive Director Shashank Srivastava said that the share of CNG cars in the company’s total sales is increasing. In such a situation, the company is planning to bring more models with alternative fuel technology. The volume of Maruti’s CNG vehicles is about 17 per cent of the total sales. The company is selling nine CNG models and they account for around 32-33 per cent of those models.

Detailing the sales figures of CNG vehicles, he said that the company sold 74,000 units in 2016-17, around 1 lakh units in 2018-19, 1.05 lakh units in 2019-20 and 1.62 lakh units in 2020-21. Is.

Maruti Suzuki currently offers CNG variants in Alto, S-Presso, WagonR, Eeco, TourS, Ertiga and Super Carry. The company has also launched the new Celerio hatchback in CNG variant. Maruti Suzuki currently leads the CNG car segment in the country with over 85 percent market share in this segment. In the last financial year 2019-2020, out of around 1.9 lakh units of CNG vehicles sold in the country, 1.6 lakh units were from Maruti Suzuki.

Elaborating on the growth of CNG vehicles in the country, Srivastava said that Indian customers are very sensitive to the cost of operating their car. Due to this reason, the demand for CNG cars has increased with the rising fuel prices in the country, he added.

He said that the sales of CNG cars are also increasing as new cities are being added to the CNG gas distribution network. “There used to be only 1,400 filling stations, now this figure has crossed 3,300 and the number of filling stations is expected to cross 8,700 in the next 1.5 years. By 2025, this figure may touch 10,000,” he said.

Srivastava said that due to the continuous increase in the prices of raw materials, the price of car models can be increased. The prices of raw materials have been increasing continuously for the last one and a half years due to which the cost of manufacturing of vehicles has increased. He also said that the price may increase by Rs 12,000 to Rs 13,000 due to the new rule of providing 6 airbags in the car.
