Maruti Suzuki Engage: Maruti Suzuki trademarks the name Engage, may be rebadged Toyota Innova Highcross

The country’s largest automaker Maruti Suzuki (Maruti Suzuki) has trademarked the Engage (Engage) nameplate in India. A leaked patent document has been revealed. The carmaker had applied for the trademark in March 2023, and the official website shows the status of the trademark as “Formality Check Passed”. However, there is no official confirmation as to which model will get this name. But according to the report, the name Maruti Suzuki Engage (Maruti Suzuki Engage) can be used for the upcoming premium MPV or 7-seater SUV. The new Maruti MPV will apparently be a rebadged version of the Toyota Innova Hycross, and the new 7-seater SUV will be based on the Grand Vitara.

Look and Design

The new premium MPV from Maruti Suzuki will be available for sale by July 2023. The Maruti Engage (if this name is used for the MPV) will be the Indo-Japanese carmaker’s new flagship model in the country. The design and styling of the new Maruti MPV could be slightly different from the Toyota Innova Highcross. The model will feature the brand’s signature grille (likely similar to the Grand Vitara) as well as redesigned headlamps, taillamps and front bumper. Like the Innova Hycross, the new Maruti Engage will be based on the monocoque TNGA-C platform with FWD (front-wheel drive) system.

features

The new Maruti MPV may get a different interior theme, while the feature list will be similar to the Innova Highcross. This means that it will be the first model from the Indo-Japanese automaker to offer Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS). It will also get features like 360 degree camera, second row seats with ottoman function, a new 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system, dual pane panoramic sunroof.

engine power

The new Maruti Suzuki Engage MPV (Maruti Suzuki Engage MPV) will be made available with and without the 2.0-litre petrol engine and hybrid technology. Both the powertrains have been sourced from the Toyota Innova Highcross. The 2.0-litre Strong Hybrid version generates 186PS of max power and 206Nm of torque. It can be had with E-CVT gearbox. The 2.0-litre petrol motor generates 174PS of max power and 205Nm of torque. The engine could get a CVT automatic transmission.

how much will it cost

Prices for the new Maruti premium MPV are expected to range between Rs 19 lakh to Rs 30 lakh (ex-showroom). Earlier this week, Maruti Suzuki India President RC Bhargava confirmed that the new three-row model will be a very premium offering. He said, “It will be a tremendous car with strong hybrid technology. It will be launched in the next two months.” There is an agreement between Maruti Suzuki and Toyota, under which many models of both companies are similar. The most recent of which are the Grand Vitara and the Urban Cruiser Hyrider. Both these mid-size SUVs are being manufactured at Toyota’s Bidadi plant. Earlier, models like Baleno and Glanza, and Brezza and Urban Cruiser were re-badged versions of each other.
