Mahindra has crossed the production mark of 1 lakh units of Thar SUV and it has been done by Kamal Mahindra in 2.5 years (30 months). This shows the popularity of this SUV from the company and it is ruling its segment.
When the Mahindra Thar was brought in the new avatar, many speculations were being made but it got excellent bookings. Its sales grew rapidly after launch and the main reason for this was the right price, great design and a lot of innovative features.
The SUV is known for its off-road capability and thus the customers were attracted by its powerful engine and capability. Customers are now buying this SUV not only for off-roading but also for city driving.
The Mahindra Thar SUV is currently available in a choice of 4X4 and RWD variants. The company is soon going to update its engine. It will be updated according to the BS6 Phase 2 standard, as well as its price can also be increased.

The new Mahindra Thar was launched on 2nd October 2020. The new Thar was brought in two trims AX and LX. The LX variant is meant for casual usage while the VX variant is specially designed for adventure and off road riding.
New petrol and diesel engines have been used in Mahindra Thar, which include 2.0 liter petrol and 2.2 liter diesel engines. The petrol engine produces 150 Bhp power and 320 Nm torque, while the diesel engine produces 130 Bhp power and 350 Nm torque.
It has a new 6 speed manual and torque converter automatic gearbox. The off-road SUV has a ground clearance of 226 mm and a water wading capacity of 650 mm. It was earlier introduced in a 6-seater variant which was discontinued.
According to the information revealed, Mahindra Thar will be given RDE standard and E20 fuel ready petrol and diesel engines. This SUV has a 2.2-liter diesel engine and a 2.0-liter petrol engine, which is available with manual and automatic gearbox.
At the same time, its right wheel drive version has been given a 1.5-liter diesel engine, which provides 117 bhp power and 300 newton meters of torque. The company is about to update these engines. Along with Thar, the company will also update the engines of other SUVs.
