Lighter than iPhone: Huawei Mate X3 foldable smartphone launched in China

Huawei has opened retail sales of its latest foldable smartphone Huawei Mate X3 with a flexible screen. The first to buy a novelty will be residents of China.

Prices for the Huawei Mate X3 start at $1,890. An international launch is expected in May 2023. Huawei is touting it as the lightest foldable phone on the planet, weighing in at 239 grams, 1 gram less than the iPhone 14 Pro Max.

Another highlight was the support for satellite two-way communication. Users can send and receive messages via Beidou satellites even when the mobile network is not available. In addition, Huawei foldable smartphones now have water resistance (IPX8) and wet-hand touch mode.

The smartphone is equipped with a 7.85-inch internal flexible screen (2496 × 2224, LTPO, 120 Hz) and a 6.4-inch external display (LTPO, 120 Hz, Full HD + 2504 × 1080 pixels), a main camera (50 MP with optical stabilization , 13MP ultra-wide and 12MP telephoto with 5x zoom), 8MP selfie camera.

The hardware basis was SoC Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 4G, from 256 GB to 1 TB of flash memory. The 4800mAh battery supports 66W wired charging and 50W wireless charging. The thickness when opened is 5.3 mm. The operating system HarmonyOS 3.1 is installed on the smartphone.
