Lawrence Wong becomes the new PM of Singapore, what will be the attitude towards India, know what PM Modi said?

Lawrence Wong Singapore PM : Economist Lawrence Wong was sworn in as the fourth Prime Minister of Singapore. 51 year old Wong will replace 72 year old Lee Hsien Loong. After being in power for 20 years, Lee Hsien Loong has left his post and handed over power to Lawrence Wong, who was Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister. The Wong government is also now expected to continue the business-friendly policies that have led Singapore to become Asia’s financial center and emerge as a business hub, which has brought investment to Asia, including India.

Let us tell you that Singapore is the eighth largest trade partner of India. Now on how relations will be with India after the arrival of the new PM, the Singapore Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry says that Singapore’s relations with India will continue to flourish under the leadership of the new Prime Minister Wong. SICCI President Neil Parekh said that we are confident that relations between Singapore and India will continue to move forward under the leadership of Lawrence Wong.

Who is Lawrence Wong?
Born on 18 December 1972, Wong comes from an ordinary family. Wong studied economics at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He is also fond of music. He also went to America. He received a master’s degree from Harvard Kennedy School. Wong entered politics in 2011 after holding some important positions in Singapore’s bureaucracy.

He contested the elections as a candidate of the People’s Action Party. Wong was also appointed to the board of directors of the Central Bank of Singapore. After this he took charge of the Department of Culture, National Development and Education. In 2021 he became finance minister and a year later was appointed deputy prime minister and Lee’s successor. He is serving as the Chairman of the Central Bank Board from 2023.
