Facebook is launching its fastest growing content format ‘Reels’ in more than 150 countries. Facebook-owned Meta gave this information on Tuesday. Reels is a short video feature. In the year 2020, Meta launched it on Instagram and in 2021 on Facebook. Reels was introduced to compete with the Chinese company ByteDance’s app TikTok. Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta, said in a Facebook post that Reels is our fastest growing content format ever and we are now making it available to everyone on Facebook.
The company says that people on Facebook are now spending the most time on videos. In view of this, the company has also announced new ways of earning for the creators in the reels. According to the company, now ads will be shown to the users in the middle of the Facebook reel. Full screen ads will also be seen in the reels soon. Facebook will earn bigger than this, but some part of it will also be given to the creators.
Regarding the fall in earnings, Meta says that Apple’s privacy change in its operating system has affected it. This has made it difficult for brands to target their ads on Facebook and Instagram. The company has also cited macroeconomic issues like supply-chain constraints. Last month, the company had said that it expects revenue growth to slow down due to increased competition for users and engagement towards features like reels. In its Tuesday announcement, Meta said it would roll out an update to place Facebook Reels in the new location. Under this, the reels are ready to be set in a better place.
It is worth noting that Meta is continuously taking action for violating the rules related to the content. The company took ‘action’ on more than 16.2 million content pieces on Facebook in the month of November in India. This action was taken under 13 Violation category. During the same period, the company’s photo-sharing platform Instagram took action against more than 32 lakh articles in 12 categories.
Under the IT rules that came into force in 2021, large digital platforms with more than 50 lakh users are required to publish compliance reports every month.
