The prevalence of electric cars is increasing both in the country and worldwide. This trend was evident at the 2024 World Car Awards held at the New York Auto Show.
Kia EV9 managed to secure two awards at the event. It won the ‘World Car of the Year’ and the ‘World Electric Vehicle’ awards. It’s worth noting that this car is set to be launched in the Indian market later this year.
Last year, Kia EV6 GT received the ‘2023 World Performance Car’ award, and in 2020, Kia Telluride won the ‘World Car of the Year’ award. Overall, Kia has been dominating these awards in recent years. Hyundai is also a strong contender alongside Kia.
Hyundai’s Ioniq-5 N was awarded the ‘2024 World Performance Car’ at the World Car Awards event. This South Korean vehicle outperformed the BMW M2 and BMW XM to clinch the award. The car boasts acceleration from 0-100 km/h in 3.4 seconds and a top speed of 260 km/h. Additionally, the BMW 5 Series and i5 won the ‘World Luxury Car’ award, and the Volvo EX30 secured the ‘World Urban Car’ award.
The Toyota Prius sedan stood out with its unique design and won the ‘World Car Design of the Year’ award, surpassing the Ford Bronco and Ferrari Purosang. Over 100 journalists from 29 countries evaluated 38 cars across different segments to select the winners. Among the competing cars, three models—BYD Auto-3, Seal, and Citroen C3 Aircross—are available in India.
