The government has ordered an inquiry against DGP Ramchandra Rao, father of Kannada actress Ranya Rao, arrested in the gold smuggling case in Karnataka. Additional Chief Secretary Gaurav Gupta has been appointed for this investigation, who will investigate the role of Ramchandra Rao in this case. The CM office said on Tuesday that the order for the appointment of Gaurav Gupta was issued on Monday.
The Government of Karnataka has also ordered a CID investigation of police officers’ lapse and negligence against duty at Kempe Gowda International Airport in Bengaluru. DGP Ramchandra Rao is currently working as the Managing Director of Karnataka State Police Housing and Infrastructure Development Corporation. Actress Ranya Rao is her step daughter. He is accused of taking advantage of his father’s influence.
The government order said, “ACS Gaurav Gupta has been appointed as investigating officer to investigate the facts-situations to avail the protocol related facilities and to investigate the role of State Director General of Police Ramchandra Rao (Karnataka State Police Housing and Infrastructure Corporation Managing Director) in this case. They have to report within a week.”
Director General of Police, Inspector General of Police and Secretary of Personnel and Administrative Reforms Department have also been instructed to provide all necessary documents and assistance for the said investigation. It has been said in this order that Kannada actress Ranya Rao was arrested by the Revenue Intelligence Directorate when she was illegally carrying a gold bar from Dubai to Bengaluru.
During the investigation of the case, it was revealed that Ranya Rao has misused the facilities provided to highly placed officials at the airport. “It has also been reported that Ranya Rao has misused the protocol services provided by his father Ramchandra Rao,” the order said.
Let us tell you that the Revenue Intelligence Directorate (DRI) seized a gold bar worth Rs 12.56 crore from Ranya Rao at Campe Gowda International Center on March 3. The next day, the DRI said that it has seized gold jewelery worth Rs 2.06 crore and Rs 2.67 cash from Ranya’s house in Bangalore. DRI is investigating this matter. The CBI has also joined the investigation.
