Outgoing US President Joe Biden said on Friday that he would have defeated Donald Trump in the general elections held on November 5 last year, but he decided to withdraw from the race midway for the sake of the unity of the Democratic Party. During a press conference at the White House, Biden was asked the question, ‘Mr. President, do you regret your decision not to run for re-election? Do you think this made it easier for your predecessor to succeed you?’

In response, Joe Biden said, ‘I don’t think so. I think I would have defeated Trump. I could defeat Trump. I also think that Kamala (Harris) could have defeated Trump. But this (dropping out of the presidential race) was not about that – when the party was worried about whether I would be able to continue or not, I felt it was important to unify the party. Even though I thought I could win again, I thought it would be better to unite the party.

After facing a lot of criticism from his own party leaders, Joe Biden decided to withdraw from the presidential race and supported his fellow Vice President Kamala Harris as the Democratic Party’s presidential candidate. Kamala Harris had to face defeat in the presidential election at the hands of Donald Trump. The Republican Party got a clean sweep in the general elections, which not only brought Trump back to the White House, but his party maintained its majority in the House of Representatives and also gained majority in the Senate.
