According to a media report about Jio, some selected MyJio app users have got UPI payment support. The company seems to be gearing up to compete with Google Pay and WhatsApp, which have made their place in the market with this UPI feature. The report states that the company has rolled out the UPI payment option in the MyJio app and is currently available only to users who have a Virtual Payment Address (VPA) with the @Jio UPI handle.
Recently it was reported that Jio is in talks with Axis Bank, ICICI Bank and SBI Bank to provide UPI payment facility on its platform. In the report of Entrackr, it has been claimed that a select few users are seeing the option of UPI payment in the MyJio app.
The UPI option inside the app is seen in the screenshot shared by the website. Apart from this option in the app, other services of Jio like JioSaavn, JioCinema and JioEngage etc. have also been seen.
The report further states that on registering users will get a VPA with the handle @Jio UPI. As seen in the screenshot, the option of entering the bank account number is also coming in the app to link this UPI ID with the bank. In this, to get the UPI PIN, information has also been sought from the users like mobile number linked with their bank account, debit card number etc.
The process is very similar to other UPI payment apps like Google Pay, Paytm and WhatsApp. Gadgets 360 does not confirm this news and Jio has also been contacted regarding this news, but no information has been given by the company so far.
