January SIAM Data: In the month of January, the country’s car makers have exported 55551 PVs. Whereas, in January 2022, the PV export figure was 40781 units. Although the export of three wheelers has come down from 39151 units in January last year to 23080 units in January 2023.
January SIAM Data: The Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) has reported in data released on Monday that in January 2023, passenger vehicle sales in the domestic market have increased by 17.23 percent year-on-year to 2.98 lakh units. The auto sector has benefited from the improving consumer sentiment in January. SIAM data shows that the utility vehicle segment, which is next in the passenger vehicle segment, has seen the highest growth during this period. Sales of the utility vehicle segment (UV) in January 2023 are expected to increase by 28 per cent year-on-year to 149,328 units. Whereas in January 2022, the utility vehicle segment sales stood at 116,962 units.
Marginal growth in two-wheeler sales
Two-wheeler sales in January 2022 grew by just 3.81 per cent year-on-year to 11.84 lakh units amid a slowdown in the country’s rural economy. Speaking on the occasion, SIAM Director General Rajesh Menon said that the PV segment has once again witnessed the highest sales in the month of January. The 10-month period from April 2022 to January 2023 shows PV sales crossing the 3 million mark for the first time. He further added that the L5 range three-wheeler sales have more than doubled this January as compared to a year ago. While the sales of two-wheelers have increased by about 4 percent.
According to SIAM data released today, passenger car sales in January stood at 1.36 lakh units, up 8.1 per cent year-on-year. While two-wheeler sales during this period stood at 1.18 million units, a growth of 3.5 per cent year-on-year. At the same time, motorcycle sales have increased by 3.7 percent on an annual basis to 7.7 lakh units.
Car exports also increased
In the month of January, the country’s car makers have exported 55551 PVs. Whereas, in January 2022, the PV export figure was 40781 units. However, the export of three wheelers has decreased from 39151 units in January last year to 23080 units in January 2023. On the other hand, the export of two-wheelers from India has decreased by 40.76 percent to 220103 units in January 2023 on an annual basis.
