Electrek’s accordingA Jaguar I-Pace electric car that was charging in a garage in , Florida suddenly caught fire. This is the fourth incident of fire that has been reported in the I-Pace. The I-Pace is Jaguar’s first and only electric car available in the market, which was launched in 2018.

Reports suggest that Florida-based Gonzalo Salazar bought a new 2019 Jaguar I-Pace electric car in 2020. He was driving this electric car without any problem till an incident in June 2022. Salazar told the website via email: “On June 16, I plugged the car in before going to sleep. On the morning of June 17, I woke up and unplugged the car. Later that morning I left for some work. I left that morning.” about 12 miles before returning home [20 किलोमीटर] and parked the car back in the garage, leaving the garage door open. While I was working at home, I heard cracking sounds from the garage. I decided to see where the sounds were coming from, and walking into the garage, I encountered smoke. The thought immediately came to my mind that ‘when there is smoke, there is fire,’ and I need to get the car out of the garage of the house.”

In order to protect his home and the animals that live there, Salazar pulls out the I-Pace and manages to drive the car up a street in front of his house.

Salazar continued, “I went back home to get my phone and also noticed that all the smoke from the garage was now filling my entire house, as the AC unit is right next to the garage door. I called Jaguar Roadside Assistance. Called for help. When I finished chatting with them the fire was already out. After that I called 911 to deal with the situation. But it was not slow burning, once the fire broke out there was a lot of firecrackers. There were similar sounds, and the car quickly went up in flames.”

Reports suggest that thereafter, the fire department poured flame retardant foam on the vehicle until the fire was extinguished.

Salazar is extremely unhappy with Jaguar in this matter. He further told the website, “My insurance company sent a forensic expert, they examined them, and declared the car a complete loss. Jaguar, on the other hand, is not being helpful at all, saying that they have to do their investigation. needs to be completed, but once again due to the risk of fire, they can’t find a place where they can lift the car, so their “investigation” is halted, and they don’t know anything about what happened. Not taking responsibility.”
