ITR Filing: ITR filing date will be extended from 31st July, a big update related to the Income Tax Department has come out

ITR Filing: If you have not yet filed Income Tax Return (ITR), then this news is for you. Yes, like every time, this time also the last date for filing Income Tax Return (ITR Filing) is 31st July. This year many taxpayers are facing problems in the e-filing portal. This is the reason why many complaints related to the problems coming in the portal are also being received on social media. Due to continuous problems like this, many Chartered Accountants Associations (CA Associations) have also written a letter to the Income Tax Department and informed the taxpayers and professionals about the problems in the e-filing ITR portal. Let us know what kind of problems the taxpayers are facing?

What is the glitch related to tax?

Taxpayers have reported many problems related to the portal on social media. This includes problems in accessing Form 26AS/AIS/TIS due to glitches in the portal and differences in TIS and AIS data. Apart from this, joint income is appearing in the accounts of both the joint account holders. In such a situation, notices related to investigation are being issued even after timely notifications have been issued by the taxpayers.

TDS figures do not match with Form 26AS
Apart from this, there are very few options to answer in the AIS/TIS portal, which is why every situation cannot be explained correctly. Many taxpayers say that the changes made in their answers in TIS are not visible quickly, which causes trouble. Due to constant buffering and other technical problems, taxpayers are not able to submit the form. Many times the data already filled in ITR such as salary, interest income and TDS figures do not match with Form 26AS.

Delay in filing returns
Taxpayers who have business income are facing difficulty in showing dividend income correctly in Schedule OS, because in the current system, first dividend income has to be shown in business income and then it has to be deducted. This has complicated the process. When taxpayers try to file their returns, error messages often appear, which is causing delay in submitting returns. In some cases, the OTP required for authentication is not received on time or is not received at all. Due to this, there is a problem in verifying and submitting the return. Apart from this, some taxpayers are not able to download the receipt of the filed ITR which is necessary to confirm their compliance.

Will the last date be extended beyond 31 July?
The Income Tax Department has not yet given any official statement on extending the last date for filing income tax returns from 31 July. There is no update yet on whether the department will extend the date for filing ITR or not. But people are worried that the date may be extended due to problems in e-filing. Amidst all these problems, many taxpayers have started the process of filing ITR.

According to the data released by CBDT, more than 2.7 crore ITRs have been filed till July 14, 2024. This time 13% more ITRs have been filed as compared to the same period last year. More than 13 lakh ITRs were filed in a single day on July 13. Now the numbers are increasing as the last date approaches. This year the target of filing 1 crore ITRs was completed on June 23, 2024 and the target of 2 crore was completed on July 7, 2024. Compared to every time, this target has already been completed.
