Apple is set to open its first official retail store in India’s financial hub Mumbai, the company told Reuters.
The Cupertino-based company launched an online store in India in 2020. Her 2021 plans to launch an offline retail store in the country were put on hold due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Apple products have been sold in India for years on e-commerce platforms such as Amazon.com and Flipkart Walmart Inc, as well as through resellers.
In addition, Apple is reportedly planning to ship from India immediately after the launch of the iPhone 15 series, indicating gradual progress in Apple’s supply chain diversification.
Apple has placed a small percentage of orders for the iPhone 15 in India, with test production quality receiving good reviews. Cases for the iPhone 15 have reportedly begun to be made in India by suppliers such as Jabil. Jabil has previously released cases for AirPods and is preparing to release a stylus for the Apple Pencil.
iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max will continue to be made only in China.
