IPL Valuation: People’s craze for Indian Premier League ie IPL is not hidden from anyone. Big news has come about IPL, one of the biggest events of the sports world. Its total valuation has crossed $10 billion and it has achieved the status of Decacorn. Getting to this point so quickly can be a dream for any startup but it is not so in the case of IPL. It has created an ecosystem worth $10.9 billion within 15 years of its completion, which is no mean feat.
D&P Advisory released the report
In fact, a consulting firm named D&P Advisory has done this research and has told that the valuation of IPL which was $6.2 billion in the year 2020 has come to $10.9 billion by the year 2022 with a tremendous increase of 75 per cent. Adding 75 percent growth to its valuation in just two years has been seen very rarely in the history of sports. After this it has got the title of Decacorn i.e. a business whose valuation has crossed $10 billion. D&P Advisory has revealed this in its report named ‘Beyond 22 Yards’.
IPL achieves even higher growth in rupees
Where IPL showed 75 percent growth in US dollar terms in 2 years, while in rupee terms, it is seen to achieve 90 percent growth.
If its growth is seen on the basis of constant currency, then it has come close to $12 billion. However, due to the fall of the currency, its total value in front of the dollar has seen a decline of about 10-12 percent, which has been seen this year in the form of IPL media rights. Santosh N, Managing Partner, D&P India Advisory Services has this to say.
IPL rights auctioned for next 5 years
In this year’s IPL media rights auction, Disney Star got TV rights for Rs 23,575 crore and Viacom18 got digital rights for which they spent Rs 23,758 crore. Apart from this, the total valuation of IPL will be 94 matches instead of 74 in the next cycle, which will earn BCCI heavily in the form of higher ticket rates, central sponsorship deals and other revenue. These media rights have been sold for the next 5 years i.e. from 2023 to 2027.
