Enthusiasts have already assembled handicraft iPhones with a universal connector more than once – but recently a higher-quality modification of the “factory” level iPhone 12 Pro Max has appeared on sale. It is almost impossible to notice “finishing with a file” on the device, while its price is not far from the standard model.
The main difference between the novelty and the versions that appeared earlier was a completely changed approach to modifying the original device. The company made a special cable for the USB port, equipped with an MFi chip for full compatibility with third-party accessories. In addition, a 3D-printed insert was used to fasten the connector, making the traces of modification almost invisible.
At the same time, the engineers had to go for a little trick, filing the speaker housing to fit the new connector inside the device. Testing carried out after assembly of the smartphone showed that it is fully functional: it can exchange data with iTunes, connect to a Mac, and charge normally using an original Apple charger via a USB Type-C port.
A modified version of the iPhone 12 Pro Max is already listed on eBay – the auction will end on March 6th. At the time of writing the news, the maximum bet was $1400.
