At the auto show in Chicago the company Kia presented the sedan K5 2025 model year in American specification. Despite the reworked front and rear, the mid-size sedan gets new technologies, more standard features and a new engine for the base models.
In the rear was a 1.6-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine with 180 hp, previously used in most K5s. Instead of it is installed new for K5 atmospheric 2,5-liter four-cylinder engine with a capacity of 191 hp. For all trim levels, except GT. The new engine continues to be paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. Front-drive is included in the standard equipment, and all-wheel drive is available only in the GT-Line.
The significantly more powerful GT returns with the same transmission. It is again driven by a 2.5-liter four-cylinder turbocharged engine with a power of 290 hp, mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission with dual clutch, which it shares with the Hyundai Sonata N Line. The sportiest K5 is equipped with larger brakes, unique suspension setup and wider tires on larger 19-inch discs.
Like the Korean version, the American K5 has new headlights and taillights for the restyled front and rear. The updated front section includes new orange daytime running lights, cut into the K5 zigzag pattern on the front section. The taillights are larger at the rear than before, and cut into the bumper.
The base configuration LXS is equipped with a set of 16-inch wheels, while the EX and GT-Line received a set of 18-inch wheels. At the top of the model line the GT gets 19-inch wheels, shod in Pirelli P-Zero 245/40R-19 rubber. The GT also gets a standard set of bright-green brake supports, matching the seat struts.
Available as options is a new 12.0-inch block of digital instruments and a new standard 12.3-inch central touch screen located under the common glass. Kia added wireless versions of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard features across the entire K5 line. The screen also became more responsive, updates available over the wireless network.
Control elements of the heating, ventilation and air conditioning system and audio are located on the small screen. The changes for 2025 conclude with a new center console with enlarged armrests, a wireless charging panel and USB-C ports at the front and rear.
Sales of novelties in the US start in spring.
