While Nvidia and AMD are creating specialized versions of gaming graphics cards for cryptocurrency mining, Intel is reportedly intent on releasing its own ASIC for the same purpose.
This is not a rumor, but data regarding the upcoming ISSCC conference. The source claims that Intel will show Bonanza Mine, an ultra-low-voltage, energy-efficient ASIC for bitcoin mining.
Actually, back in December, Raja Koduri said that Intel was working on some kind of specialized solution for cryptocurrency mining, it was just that, like AMD and Nvidia, the company could simply adapt gaming video cards for this purpose.
Whether the Intel product will somehow globally affect the mining market is still difficult to say. Everything will depend on performance, price, energy efficiency and availability. At the very least, gamers should be glad that Intel will not use conventional GPUs for mining.
