The Sollers plant in Vladivostok may start producing cars of the Chinese brands Geely and Chery. Until May, the company produced Mazda cars for the Russian market.
The local publication PrimaMedia reports that the relevant negotiations with representatives of Geely and Chery have already taken place. A whole delegation from China arrived at the meeting of the Russian-Chinese Business Council (RCBC) in Vladivostok, which included representatives of Geely, Sany Heavy Industry, a manufacturer of special equipment, as well as Chinese construction giants China Railway Construction Corporation Limited and China State Construction Engineering Corp.
It is expected that the result of the negotiations may be the localization of the production of Geely cars at the facilities of the Sollers plant, where the assembly of the Mazda 6, as well as the Mazda CX-5 and CX-9 crossovers, has not yet been resumed. According to forecasts, this will not be possible in the near future.
As for Chery, back in February, the main shareholder of Sollers Auto at that time held negotiations with Chery Automobile, but their results are also not yet known.
