An insider under the nickname negativeonehero has added to the collection of rumors about the performance of the yet to be presented Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 mobile platform. According to him, the flagship chip really supports high frequencies, which puts it on the same level as the Snapdragon X Elite laptop. But the future new product also has a dark side.
According to the test results that the source published on the social network X , the engineering sample of Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 was able to accelerate to 4.30 GHz with a power consumption level of 10 W. But with these parameters, the chip could only work for a very short time due to a rapid increase in temperature and subsequent throttling.
The processor remains most stable when operating at a frequency of no higher than 3.80 GHz, which is comparable to that of the Apple A17 Pro and Snapdragon X Elite.
The insider notes that in theory it is possible to maintain the maximum processor frequency, but this will require a liquid cooling system. In his opinion, manufacturers are unlikely to agree to this – such a decision will entail additional costs. Therefore, in the new generation of smartphones, Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 most likely will not be able to show all its capabilities laid down by the developer.
