Semiconductor Manufacturing in India: The Indian government is taking rapid steps towards becoming self-reliant in the future 6G technology. Its main objective is to reduce dependence on countries like China for chipsets. While promoting the ‘Make in India’ mission, the government wants to produce the hardware required for 6G technology, especially advanced chipsets, in the country itself.
Till now we were dependent on foreign countries for telecom hardware, which also posed a threat to national security. But now the government has decided to change this thing. 6G technology which will be 100 times faster than 5G, will require extremely fast and low latency chipsets. According to the ET report, the government believes that production of these chipsets in the country is necessary.
Hardware for 6G will be made in the country itself
For this, the government will use the semiconductor manufacturing units being built in Assam and Gujarat. Advanced chipsets required for 6G network will be made in these units. The government’s aim is that the entire production process, from raw material to final production, should take place in the country. For this, the government is also promoting cooperation between the education sector and industry so that investment can be brought in the entire product chain.
Rs 650 crore for R&D
The government is also emphasizing on Research and Development (R&D) for the development of 6G technology. The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has allocated Rs 650 crore for several R&D projects focused on 6G. These include 111 research proposals whose objective is to promote the 6G network ecosystem.
Apart from this, there are 19 projects which are working on improving 5G and laying the foundation of 6G. The Science and Technology Department is also investing money on advanced communication system focused on 6G.
government planning
According to ET, some experts believe that the budget of Rs 400 crore allocated for telecommunication R&D is not enough. The government says that its 6G strategy is not just dependent on the budget but on promoting innovation, creating infrastructure and creating skilled workforce. Also focused on doing.
The government is adopting such an approach to create a strong end-to-end telecom product ecosystem with special focus on ‘Make in India’.
Overall Government of India 6G technology India is working on a concrete plan to become self-reliant and reduce dependence on countries like China. Its objective is to produce the hardware required for 6G technology in the country itself and to create a strong ecosystem in this region.
