In Russia, they found a way to calculate and fine those who secretly rents out apartments and rooms

Dmitry Shagin, a lawyer for the Interregional Collegium of Moscow, notes that similar situations began to arise in cities other than Moscow. It happens that management companies independently inform the Federal Tax Service about the high consumption of utilities in apartments where no one is registered. After that, the tax office asks the bank for data on income and calculates the necessary fines and taxes.

And if a person does from time to time live in one of his two apartments, then, according to Zalimkhan Magomedov, a senior lawyer at the European House of Law, it is necessary to prove it – with the help of information “on the receipts or expenses (transfers) of the inspected person”.

Why did the management companies themselves begin to cooperate with the Federal Tax Service? According to the head of the section at the Zhilishchnik State Budgetary Institution, this is due to the fact that since the beginning of the pandemic, the number of those who do not pay for utilities has begun to grow. And the transfer of information to the tax office is one of the ways to force apartment owners to “close” the resulting debt.
