In a distant galaxy, scientists have discovered water

Recent observations by scientists at the Atacama Large Millimeter / Submillimeter Array (ALMA) have shown that there is water in the object SPT0311-58, which consists of two galaxies. But it was seen only in one of the galaxies, which is located about 12.88 billion light years from Earth. All results of the study are described in a publication in The Astrophysical Journal.

It is noted that SPT0311-58 was noticed by ALMA scientists in 2017. They suggest that the two galaxies that make up the named object are able to merge and in the future turn into massive elliptical galaxies, similar to those in the Local Universe.
