Hyundai unveils Ioniq 6 electric sedan, will run 482 km on a single charge

The Ioniq 6 uses Hyundai’s ‘Sensious Sportiness’ design platform. The company has also designed the Ioniq 5 on this platform. However, unlike the Ioniq 5, the Ioniq 6 has a more aerodynamic design that is more efficient at reducing wind obstruction. The car has been given a ‘single-curve’ silhouette, which is claimed to increase the car’s efficiency.

Hyundai Ioniq 6 measures 4,855 mm in length, 1,880 mm in width, 1,495 mm in height and has a wheelbase of 2,950 mm. The Ioniq 6 is comparable in size to the Tesla Model 3, Polestar 2 and BMW i4.

On the inside, the Ioniq 6 sports a flat center console which is seen on other EV products by the brand and the Genesis GV60 sold abroad. The minimalist dashboard gets a pair of dual 12-inch touchscreen and two-spoke steering wheel.

The Ioniq 6 uses the brand’s E-GMP skateboard architecture, which is also the basis for the Kia EV6. Hyundai hasn’t revealed the full technical details of the EV yet, but it is expected to get the same 800V hardware as standard that allows fast charging up to 350kW.

The Ioniq 6 is also expected to be offered with a choice of batteries ranging in capacity from 58kWh to 77.4kWh, with the former providing an expected range of over 482 Km.

The Hyundai Ioniq 6 will be offered with two powertrain options. The first will be a single motor rear wheel drive variant that will provide power of 229hp and the second is a two-motor all wheel drive variant that provides power of 585hp. This car can accelerate from 0-100kph in just 3.5 seconds.

Hyundai is preparing to launch the Kona electric facelift in India soon. In May 2022, the brand announced that it would assemble the Ioniq 5 locally to reduce costs. The move will allow Hyundai to take forward its sister brand Kia, which recently launched the Kia EV 6 via the CBU route at a starting price of Rs 59.95 lakh (ex-showroom, India).
