It has been mentioned in several media reports that this decision has been taken due to the problem of coolant leakage in 853 units of Hyundai Kona. One thing to note here is that the company has recalled this car in the US, which means that no such problem has been seen in the current Kona in the Indian market. It is being said that the company will fix this technical fault in the Hyundai Kona EV without any extra charge.
Explaining the fault in the Kona EV in a statement, the company said that there could be a power shortage due to internal leakage in the car’s EPCU i.e. Electric Power Control Unit. Due to lack of power, there is a possibility that the vehicle may stop midway. The company has called back the car to rectify this problem and to ensure that the people do not face any kind of difficulty because of this.
It has been learned that the recalled Hyundai Kona electric cars are 2021 models and all these models have EPCU which may have an inadequate sealing condition in the DC converter housing. The company says that the people running the corners are being informed about the recall so that the problem can be resolved in time.
