Huge saved chats with thousands of multimedia images will become a thing of the past: Google will limit the size of WhatsApp backups

As it became known, Google is going to introduce restrictions on the backup of WhatsApp conversations when linked to your existing Google Drive account.

According to WABetaInfo, all good things must come to an end: Evidence unearthed by WABetaInfo indicates that as yet unknown restrictions will be placed on Google Drive accounts. This makes sense given Google’s active push for paid cloud storage accounts and the addition of paid features to popular apps like Google Photos that encourage Google One subscriptions.

WhatsApp backups do not currently count towards your Google Drive storage quota or account limit. For those who save huge chats with thousands of multimedia images and videos, this is a great feature, then Google is going to remove this bonus.

A number of lines of code in the latest beta build of WhatsApp demonstrate preparations for introducing Google Drive backup limits with warning messages and introductory information. As WABetaInfo writes, each account will be given 2 GB of free storage, but this has not yet been confirmed by Google or WhatsApp.

You will receive notifications as soon as you start to reach the set limit. For those who don’t have a Google One subscription, there’s 15GB of free cloud storage for all purposes.
