How much the obligatory entry to “State Services” via SMS will protect against fraudsters

According to the minister, such a measure will protect citizens from fraudsters and cybercriminals. The future innovation was commented by Igor Bederov, head of the department of information and analytical research at T. Hunter. As the expert noted, two-factor identification is a relevant and demanded step, but the technology for confirming login via SMS is already outdated and vulnerable.

If necessary, attackers can intercept SMS and even reissue the victim’s SIM card. It is better to use a special authenticator application, which will generate a one-time code every time you enter the portal.

Bederov also advised not to save the password from the “Gosuslug” portal in the browser, but to store it in an external password manager.
