Now the scammers have switched to the so-called targeted method – they use not a general mailing list, which they may simply not “bite” at, but individual links, which contain data about the country, language, IP-address of a particular victim. The study examined the actions of fraudsters using this method in 91 countries.
In 36% of cases, Europeans remain deceived, 57% of those deceived voluntarily make payments, while the number of traditional phishing attacks dropped to 17.5%.
In the first half of 2021, Group-IB recorded an increase in phishing targeting of online services by 16%, social networks by 8%. The total damage from such fraudulent actions, according to Group-IB estimates, amounted to about $ 80 million or 6 billion rubles per month.
