The results of tests of AMD Hawk Point processors in Geekbench appeared in the network, and they demonstrate a significant increase in performance.

To begin with, let us recall the characteristics of the new CPU. AMD Ryzen 7 8700G – this is the top model of the line. It has 8 cores, 16 MB of cache-memory of the third level and 8 MB of cache of the second level, frequency from 4,2 to 5,1 GHz, TDP 65 W. It includes the top iGPU Radeon 780M with 12 computing blocks and frequency 2,9 GHz. Price Ryzen 7 8700G in USA – 330 dollars.

AMD Ryzen 5 8600G – 6-core 12-thread processor with 16 MB of third-level cache memory and 6 MB of second-level cache. At the same value TDP 65 W frequency lower – 4,3-5,0 GHz. iGPU is also better – it is Radeon 760M with 8 computing blocks and frequency 2,8 GHz. Price of processor – 230 dollars.

Tested processors on different platforms: Ryzen 7 8700G – on the motherboard Asus ROG STRIX B650-A Gaming WIFI with 32 GB of memory DDR5-6400, and for testing Ryzen 5 8600G used system board MSI B650 Gaming Plus WIFI.

The results are shown in the graph above. The AMD Ryzen 7 8700G provides an increase in performance of 64% in the multi-threaded test and 37% in the single-threaded test relative to the model Ryzen 5 5700G. As for the Ryzen 5 8600G, it surpasses the performance of the Ryzen 5 5600G by 50% in the multithreaded test and by 29% in the single-threaded test.

In general, the upgrade turned out to be impressive, but here it is necessary to note the nuance: Ryzen 5 5600G and Ryzen 5 5700G came out 2,5 years ago, and all this time AMD did not rush to release successors. If the company had updated its CPU line every year, the difference in performance between the old and new CPUs would hardly have been so significant.
