In August, Russians purchased 42,593 new cars, which is 20% more than in July. The Russian car market continues to recover for the third month in a row after the bottom reached in May, when only 27,458 units were sold. If we compare this August with the data of a year ago, then the fall was 64%.
Among the brands, Lada is the leader – 15,737 cars were sold in August. Kia is in second place with 3,872 units. Next come Haval (3,040 units), Chery (2,983 units) and Geely (2,935 units). These five brands account for two-thirds of the entire new passenger car market in the past month.
In the rating of models, Lada Granta retains the first place – 11,302 units. For the first time, the Haval Jolion crossover took second place in the overall standings and first among foreign cars with a score of 2,049 units. Back in July, the “Chinese” became the best-selling foreign car in the Russian Federation for the first time, but then Chery Tiggo 4 was in the lead. These are significant changes in the market: for a long time, South Korean models were the main bestsellers among foreign cars.
The third place is now taken by Lada Vesta (1,880 units), followed by Geely Coolray (1,599 units) and Chery Tiggo 7 Pro (1,595 units).
