On 19 May 2020, Instagram announced the Shops feature. This was followed by the launch of the platform’s most popular feature reels on 5 August 2020. The company introduced it in a total of 50 countries. Meanwhile, the company started getting challenges from the Chinese app Tiktok and its popularity declined.
