GTA: Vice City launched on TP-Link router [VIDEO]

Hardly anyone in the early 2000s could have imagined that to run the then-released GTA: Vice City, not a modern computer or game console, but an ordinary home router would be enough. Of course, Doom is already running on anything , but here we are talking about a much more demanding game.

A user with the nickname Manawyrm shared his achievement on the KittenLabs website. He managed to run the cult and beloved game on the TP-Link TL-WDR4900 router. Its difference from most of its analogues is that inside it does not have the usual MIPS and ARM processor, but a much more advanced solution based on PowerPC from NXP – the 32-bit PowerPC e500v2.

However, it was not without a slight modification, since a discrete AMD Radeon HD 7470 video card, released in 2012, was still connected to the router. To do this, we had to use a special miniPCIe board, which was connected to the router’s motherboard with an enameled copper wire. Additionally, the PCIe lanes leading from the CPU to one of the Atheros chipsets have been cut and rerouted to a miniPCIe slot. This was followed by installing Debian Linux and an old AMD driver to get the video card to work correctly.

Of course, the game does not work perfectly, but if you really want to, you can still play GTA: Vice City on a router.
